Revolutionizing Enclosed Space Inspections in Maritime with Drone Technology

Oct 18, 2016 09:10

On October 7th, RIMS BV (Robotica in Maintenance Strategies BV) introduced an innovative drone inspection service designed specifically for the Maritime and Offshore Industry. Founded in 2015 by David Knukkel, a seasoned Maintenance Consultant in this sector, RIMS BV aims to enhance safety and efficiency by deploying advanced drone and robotic technologies to transform high-risk maintenance tasks. A primary focus for RIMS is conducting safe inspections of enclosed spaces. Through comprehensive market research and collaborations with various Universities in the Netherlands and Switzerland, they discovered the drone Elios, developed by Swiss company Flyability. This unique drone features a protective cage, making it ideal for navigating and inspecting enclosed environments. In partnership with Rotterdam Offshore Group and Rolldock, RIMS BV executed a successful test on the Rolldock Sky, focusing on operations within a ballast tank and duct keel under the supervision of Class. The tests validated the drone's controls and data transmission capabilities. This marked a significant step towards safer and more efficient inspections in the maritime industry. RollDock Shipping BV, a prominent Dutch marine transportation company and a key player in the Roll Group, is excited to announce the addition of a new semi-submersible multipurpose heavy lift vessel to its fleet.
