Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft Delivers Versatile Rolldock Storm

Jul 04, 2014 11:00

The Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG) has successfully delivered the Rolldock Storm, a remarkable addition to its fleet of multi-functional vessels. Joining its three sister ships, Rolldock Storm boasts impressive engineering, featuring a duo of powerful 350-tonne Liebherr heavy lift cranes that enable tandem lift capabilities. The vessel is designed with exceptional roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) functionality, highlighted by a robust 4,000-tonne stern ramp with adjustable heights, which allows for seamless operations at varied port pier levels. This innovative design permits the shipment of single loads weighing up to 3,000 tonnes using traditional ro-ro methods, catering to the growing trend of heavier individual parcel weights. Additionally, Rolldock Storm offers a unique submergence ability of up to 12 meters, facilitating the float-in or float-out of cargo. Unlike standard vessels with sloping sides, the ship features a dock hold crafted into a box shape measuring 119.44 meters by 19.40 meters, further enhancing its cargo handling adaptability.

FSG in Flensburg Delivers Second ROLLDOCK Vessel, ROLLDOCK STORM, to Thrilled Client

Jun 13, 2014 09:59

The accomplished shipbuilders at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) have successfully handed over the ROLLDOCK STORM to the Dutch shipping firm RollDock BV, marking a significant milestone as the vessel is set for immediate worldwide operation specializing in heavy cargo and project loads. This delivery signifies the completion of a successful order for two sister ships, ensuring full satisfaction for the client. The ROLLDOCK STAR and the newly delivered ROLLDOCK STORM each measure 151.5 meters and are designed to adapt to various challenging transport requirements that typical shipping solutions cannot accommodate. These innovative ships are particularly lauded for their remarkable flexibility, featuring multiple loading and unloading options to suit diverse operational needs. Equipped with two heavy-duty cranes capable of lifting up to 700 tons, both vessels also include height-adjustable stern ramps and adaptable hatch covers, enabling them to handle loads from ports with varying pier heights. This versatility allows for onboard capacities of up to 3,000 tons in classic RoRo operations, and the vessels can be submerged by approximately six meters, facilitating the floating in and out of cargo as well. The ROLLDOCK STAR, which commenced service in January 2023, has already showcased its capabilities by transporting a floating pavilion from Amsterdam to Gibraltar, a river cruise ship from Fos to Bordeaux, and a submarine from Kaliningrad to Vietnam. FSG Chief Peter Sierk expressed pride in the company’s progress into demanding and specialized maritime sectors, noting that the delivery of these ships aligns with FSG's future trajectory in the offshore and RoRo markets. He shared, 'The entire workforce in Flensburg has demonstrated the ability to deliver high-quality ships despite the toughest requirements. RollDock has conveyed their satisfaction with both the STORM and STAR, and we have received glowing feedback regarding STAR's performance in daily operations.' Sierk also highlighted the fruitful two-year collaboration with RollDock, emphasizing that they have formed a partnership built on reliability and mutual trust, further enriched by a shared commitment to exceptional quality and a positive working atmosphere.
