New Wellboat Ronia Diamond Grounds off Klo, Quickly Refloated and Assessed
In a notable incident on December 13, 2017, the Ronia Diamond, a newly commissioned wellboat freshly delivered by Myklebust Verft AS to Sølvtrans AS of Ålesund, found itself aground off Klo in Vesterålen at 5 a.m. This vessel is recognized as part of the world's largest wellboat fleet and had been actively engaged in shuttle operations between Øksnes west bight and Skutvik over the preceding week. Fortunately, the tide's rising levels facilitated a swift refloat. However, a minor breach in a bottom tank was detected. After the incident, the lifeboat Knut Hoem transported the Ronia Diamond to Sortland for a thorough damage assessment, where it was determined that some bottom plates might need to be removed for repair. Divers were dispatched to inspect the hull's condition thoroughly. Following evaluations, it was confirmed that the wellboat would be sent to Myklebust Verft in Gursken for repairs, with the vessel departing on December 14. The incident is not anticipated to affect the scheduled delivery of the ship to Cermaq in Chile in 2018.
