Working Conditions Aboard the Ronia-Pioneer

In a dramatic turn of events this morning, the well-boat 'Ronja Pioneer' came to the aid of three fishermen after their prawn trawler, the 'Amethyst', ran aground at the Point of Sleat on March 18, 2013. The fishermen, who were left stranded after their vessel struck the rocks, made a swift decision to abandon ship and boarded a liferaft as alarms were raised. Local vessels, including the prawn fish farm vessel 'Ronja Pioneer', and fishing boats 'Ocean Trust', 'Santa Maria', and 'Silver Dawn', rapidly responded to the emergency call. Meanwhile, the Mallaig RNLI lifeboat and the Stornoway Coastguard Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to the scene to assist in the delicate rescue operation. Also on alert were the Mallaig Coastguard Rescue Team and the local Fisherman’s Mission. Thanks to the swift actions of the 'Ronja Pioneer', the stranded crewmen were successfully recovered from the sea. Fortunately, they were later handed over to the Mallaig lifeboat crew, who confirmed that all three did not require medical attention after their harrowing experience. Following the rescue, efforts were made to recover the 15-meter 'Amethyst' from the rocks, with plans to take the vessel to Mallaig harbour for a thorough assessment and repairs.
