Robbery at Sea: 'Rosa' Targeted by Armed Intruders on Paraná River
In the early hours of October 1, 2025, at 3:15 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Rosa', owned by Naviship Paraguay S.A., became a victim of armed robbery while traversing upstream on the Paraná River. The incident occurred at kilometer 340, near the city of San Nicolás, Argentina, where the ship was transporting 2,628 tons of containerized goods from Buenos Aires to Asunción. A group of unidentified assailants boarded the vessel during its passage. Watchman Matías David Piñánez Servín noticed the intruders and alerted the crew. Upon being spotted, the offenders quickly fled into the river, using a red and yellow boat that was anchored on the starboard side of the ship. Following a thorough inspection, the crew discovered that a motor pump and several minor items had been stolen. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the crew members. The Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA) in San Nicolás promptly responded to the incident after the crew reported the theft to the Traffic Control Center. Although patrols were conducted in the vicinity, no evidence of the boat utilized by the criminals was located. A comprehensive inspection of the 'Rosa' was carried out, and federal prosecutor Gustavo Parigini initiated a legal investigation, directing the collection of statements from the crew to elucidate the events.
