Tuzla's Sahin Shipyard has successfully finalized an impressive renovation of the Rosewood, a Volga-Don general cargo ship (Project 1565), as confirmed by the Marine Engineering Bureau, the vessel's design modernization team. Following the extensive refurbishment, Rosewood has been reclassified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping under the standards KM L4 R2-RSN. The revitalization work strengthened the ship's hull by a remarkable 71%, while simultaneously boosting the cargo hold capacity and overall tonnage to adhere to the International Convention on cargo vessels. Enhancements to the seaworthiness of the Rosewood included raising the forecastle superstructure by 1.4 meters. This upgrade has resulted in a significant increase in the ship's deadweight in saltwater, improving from 4,350 tons to an impressive 6,049 tons—an increase of 31%. Additionally, the volume of the cargo holds surged by 45.8%, expanding from 6,371 cbm to a substantial 9,292 cbm. The retrofitted Rosewood is now equipped for carrying hazardous materials, featuring a carbon dioxide extinguishing system and cooling fans in the holds. Furthermore, it meets all relevant international conventions through the installation of an emergency diesel generator and an emergency fire pump. The upgraded Rosewood is designed as a twin-screw cargo vessel, consisting of four cargo holds, double bottom and double sides, along with a forecastle and poop, an aft engine room, and an accommodation superstructure.
