On the night of April 10, 2017, a significant evacuation unfolded at Esbjerg Port when the heavy load carrier 'Rotra Vente' experienced an engine failure shortly after setting sail. Compounded by a strong westerly wind and an inward tidal flow, the Siemens-operated vessel suffered a blackout and began to drift back towards the harbor. Despite attempting to drop anchor, the vessel was pushed off course, leading to an impending collision with two Maersk drilling rigs, the 'Maersk Resolve' and 'Maersk Resolute'. The crews of both rigs were evacuated as a precautionary measure. At low speed, the 'Rotra Vente' ultimately collided with one of the rigs, becoming lodged on the helipad. With the tide rising, prompt action was necessary, and two tugboats along with a pilot vessel were dispatched to regain control of the situation. Fortunately, there was minimal damage; however, some antennas and a mast were dislodged during the incident. To facilitate towing, the vessel increased its draft by taking on ballast water in the stern, allowing the tugs to successfully guide it to a berth at Aries Quay. On April 11, the 'Rotra Vente' was detained for a thorough inspection of the damages.
