In a significant maritime transaction, a group of vessels has been sold en bloc for over $50 million to buyers from Indonesia. This deal includes self-unloading capabilities, enhancing operational efficiency for the new owners. In a significant development for Mozambique's coal export capabilities, the inaugural shipment from the newly constructed coal terminal at the central port of Beira took place on Monday. The vessel Bulk Zambeze, with a coal-carrying capacity of 35,000 tonnes, embarked on its journey from Beira’s docks, heading towards the open sea. This vessel will facilitate the transshipment of coal to a larger Panamax ship, which can hold over 60,000 tonnes. The coal in question has its origins in the Tete province, where Brazilian mining giant Vale operates. This shipment is specially destined for Asian markets, underscoring the growing global demand for coal. The recently inaugurated coal terminal is equipped with cutting-edge loading technology and boasts an impressive annual capacity of six million tonnes, which matches the throughput of the Sena railway line that connects the Moatize coal basin in Tete to the port of Beira. This landmark event marks a pivotal advancement for Mozambique's coal export industry.
