Sozopol 1 Detained in Kocaeli Over Serious Deficiencies
On January 3, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Sozopol 1' faced detention in Kocaeli due to ten identified deficiencies, with three of these categorized as serious enough to warrant the ship's hold. The critical issues included: 1) Structural integrity with noticeable hull cracking; 2) Inadequate maintenance of manholes and flush scuttles, compromising water and weathertight standards; 3) Poorly maintained doors affecting the vessel's weathertight capabilities. After addressing these concerns, the vessel was released on January 7. Remarkably, this is not the first time 'Sozopol 1' has encountered regulatory challenges, as it was also detained on October 8, 2024, in Kdz Eregli for similar deficiencies, resulting in a five-day immobilization.
