Urgent Medevac Operation Off Virginia Beach Saves Injured Crew Member
In a dramatic rescue operation on August 10, 2018, the U.S. Coast Guard sprang into action to medevac an injured crew member from the cargo vessel 'Saga Navigator,' located 225 miles east of Virginia Beach. At 12:34 PM, the ship's captain alerted the Coast Guard that a crew member had sustained a severe forehead injury, resulting in a deep gash and considerable blood loss, along with a fractured foot. Responding promptly, the watchstanders at the 5th District Command Center deployed an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to the scene. In tandem, an HC-130 Hercules aircraft was dispatched to ensure communication and safety for the helicopter crew during the operation. After successfully recovering the injured man, he was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for further medical treatment.
