The research vessel 'Sagar Nidhi' has been dispatched to assist in the search for a downed Coastguard Dornier aircraft, which went missing on June 8, 2015. This decision follows the detection of beacon signals and oil spills in the vicinity of the suspected crash site by a naval ship. An additional vessel, 'Sandhyak,' has also reported intermittent transmissions that are likely originating from the Sonar Locating Beacon associated with the missing aircraft. Observations of multi-colored oil forming concentric circles in the designated area further fuel speculations that these signals and oil leaks may stem from the aircraft itself. In response, authorities have sent a sample of the oil for laboratory analysis. The transmitted signals are believed to be located near the waters off the Karaikkal-Cuddalore region of Tamil Nadu, where Air Traffic Control (ATC) had reportedly lost contact with the aircraft. The National Institute of Ocean Technology has promptly redirected the 'Sagar Nidhi' to the search area, with an anticipated arrival on June 14. Additionally, authorities have reached out to Reliance India Limited for support from their Multi Support Vessel (MSV), which includes a Remotely Operable Underwater Vehicle (ROV) to enhance underwater search capabilities. A comprehensive search operation is underway, involving 10 Coast Guard and Navy ships, alongside two aircraft.
