Brittany Ferries has announced the successful early acquisition of two chartered vessels, the 'Saint-Malo' and 'Guillaume de Normandie.' These ferries were previously leased from Stena RoRo, serving the Brittany and Normandy regions. The transition to ownership significantly alleviates financial pressures for the shipping company, especially as it navigates the complexities of the carbon tax and continues to repay its state-backed COVID-19 loan. The initial agreement, which spanned four years and included an option to buy the vessels, was originally established with the Swedish maritime company Stena RoRo. The early purchase was supported by joint ventures Sabenem and Somanor, both reliant on the Brittany and Normandy regions, marking a strategic step forward for Brittany Ferries.
