Emergency Helicopter Rescue 500 Kilometers Off Gran Canaria

Aug 30, 2024 12:39

On August 28, 2024, a heroic mission unfolded as a HD.21 'Super Puma' helicopter from the Gando Air Base conducted a critical medevac operation 500 kilometers off the coast of Gran Canaria. The helicopter's crew responded to a distress call regarding a 38-year-old Italian crew member aboard the 'Saipem FPS', who was experiencing severe abdominal pain and required immediate medical attention. The urgent situation prompted the activation of the Search and Rescue (SAR) unit of the Canary Islands Air and Space Force. This specialized unit is equipped with a nurse as part of their permanent team on rescue missions. To ensure a successful and efficient operation, the team enlisted the assistance of a CN-235/300 aircraft from SASEMAR. This aircraft played a crucial role by relaying vital information regarding high-altitude wind conditions, which helped optimize the helicopter's flight path to conserve fuel while maximizing speed. Following coordinated instructions from the CN-235/300, the Super Puma was able to execute its maneuver effectively, allowing for a seamless landing on the ship and the successful extraction of the ailing crew member. Once the patient was safely on board, the helicopter made its way back to Gran Canaria, heading straight for the helipad of Doctor Negrín Hospital. Upon arrival, the evacuee was promptly handed over to an ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service for immediate treatment and further care. This remarkable rescue operation underscores the dedication and coordination of maritime rescue forces in safeguarding lives at sea. Saipem Secures Over $1 Billion in New E&C Offshore Contracts Across Egypt, North Sea, and Russia

Jun 13, 2011 21:20

Italian engineering giant Saipem has recently announced the acquisition of new Engineering & Construction (E&C) offshore contracts, surpassing $1 billion in total value. This significant win includes projects in Egypt, the North Sea, and Russia. In Egypt, the Burullus Gas Company has tapped Saipem for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPIC) contract aimed at enhancing subsea developments within the West Delta Deep Marine Concession. This area, situated about 90 kilometers off the shores of the Northwest Nile Delta, operates at depths ranging from 400 to 1,000 meters. Saipem's scope of work involves the comprehensive deployment of seven subsea wellheads along with the necessary infrastructure, umbilicals, and flowlines to connect these to existing systems. Notably, this new contract builds on Saipem's previous successes, having completed two phases of the same concession's subsea development. The primary offshore operations will be conducted with the assistance of Saipem's specialized vessel, the Saipem FDS.
