On the evening of January 12, 2020, the cargo vessel 'Sampogracht', sailing in ballast from Flushing to Rauma, found itself adrift in the Bothnian Sea. With a crew of 15 on board, the situation turned critical when the ship's main engine overheated and subsequently failed, causing it to drift toward the shore at a speed of 1.5 knots. Efforts by the crew to rectify the engine failure on site initially did not yield results. However, after extensive troubleshooting, they successfully restarted the main engine at 4:25 a.m. on January 13, allowing the ship to resume its voyage towards Rauma at a cruising speed of seven knots. Meanwhile, the Turku Marine Rescue Center closely monitored the vessel's progress. Although there was no immediate threat to the safety of the 'Sampogracht', the brisk winds posed a challenge for any assistance attempts. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) issued an alert for the patrol vessel 'Uisko,' which was on standby for emergency towing if necessary. The size of the 'Sampogracht' would have complicated any towing operation. Assistance finally came in the form of tugboats. On the final leg of its journey, 'Sampogracht' was towed by tugs 'Jupiter' (IMO: 9287431) and 'Saturn' (IMO: 9315410), successfully guiding the vessel to its berth at the Rauma Container Terminal by 9:40 a.m. After completing necessary procedures, the ship departed Rauma again on January 16, at 8:20 p.m., setting sail towards Eemshaven with an estimated arrival time of January 19.
