Armed Intruders Target Container Ship 'Cap San Marco' Near Santos Port
In a troubling incident on December 2, 2018, the container ship 'Cap San Marco' became the target of a brazen attack by five armed assailants. The assault occurred at the outer anchorage of Santos, Brazil, while the vessel awaited its berth. During the shocking incursion, a Filipino crew member on watch was caught off guard, seized, and restrained by the intruders. The armed criminals spent approximately 45 minutes on board before making their escape. Authorities suspect this attack is part of a disturbing trend of attempts to smuggle cocaine onto ships, as evidenced by similar events throughout the year. Following the ship's arrival at the dock, a comprehensive search was conducted. While one damaged container yielded no drugs, another, which was inaccessible to the attackers, contained a substantial 402 kilograms of cocaine. This particular container had been previously identified as suspicious and was likely loaded with illicit cargo at the port of Paranaguá. It is believed that the drugs were destined for the European market.
