Faasse Groep Unveils the SCALD: A Revolutionary TSHD Hopper Dredger

Jul 13, 2017 09:37

Faasse Groep has launched the SCALD, a cutting-edge Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) designed to operate in limitless sailing areas. This innovative vessel is equipped with a shallow draft and advanced maneuverability features, including four rudder propellers and a liftable wheelhouse, making it versatile for various global applications. The SCALD is built on the framework of the seagoing freighter ‘FUTURA CARRIER,’ carefully modified to prioritize high efficiency, fuel reduction, and minimal environmental impact. The conversion process entailed shortening the original design by 20 meters at Scheepswerf Reimerswaal. Expertly transformed into a state-of-the-art and maintenance-friendly hopper dredger by Scheepswerf Gebr. Kooiman B.V. in Zwijndrecht, the SCALD was officially delivered in early July 2017. With dimensions of 79.99 meters in length, 14.10 meters in breadth, and a draft of 3.90 meters, this hopper dredger boasts a remarkable hopper capacity of 1800 m3. Additionally, it features an entirely new, liftable wheelhouse and incorporates groundbreaking technologies that enhance dredging, sieving, and unloading operations. With its multifaceted capabilities, the SCALD is poised to make significant contributions to the marine construction sector worldwide.
