This announcement followed Putin's arrival in Latin America, where Rosneft and Zarubezhneft, another state-owned entity, have pledged to support Cupet in its offshore endeavors. Given Cuba's minimal onshore oil production and reliance on Venezuelan imports, the success of this project could play a pivotal role in reshaping the nation's energy landscape. Additionally, President Putin noted that various Russian firms are exploring opportunities within Cuba's newly established special economic zone at the Mariel port, located in proximity to Havana. At the naming ceremony held today, Saipem's Chief Executive Officer, Pietro Franco Tali, emphasized the significance of this sixth-generation rig, stating, "This rig will be an essential addition to our fleet as we continue to solidify our position as one of the leading turnkey operators in the offshore and marine sectors." The Scarabeo 9 is outfitted with an advanced dynamic positioning system and is designed to operate in formidable water depths of up to 3,600 meters, positioning it as a vital asset for future deepwater operations.
