On February 6, 2016, the cargo vessel 'Schokland,' which was transporting wind turbine components from Emden to Londonderry, experienced a power failure off the western coast of Hoy. The situation prompted discussions between the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) in Shetland, the vessel's owners and agents, as well as OIC Marine Services. It was decided that the OIC Marine Services tug 'Einar' (IMO: 8820327) would take the 'Schokland' in tow, with the ready support of the MCA's emergency tug 'Herakles' and the Longhope lifeboat. The Longhope lifeboat launched shortly before 5 p.m. and made its way to the distressed cargo ship. Once on-site, the 'Herakles' and the Longhope lifeboat stayed on standby while the towing line was secured aboard the 'Schokland.' They then accompanied the convoy, comprising the 'Schokland' and 'Einar,' until they successfully navigated through the Pentland Firth. Initially, the plan was to tow the 'Schokland' to Aberdeen; however, due to adverse wind and sea conditions, Aberdeen harbour was inaccessible for shipping. By the morning of February 8, the convoy had changed course towards Kirkwall, maintaining a speed of 5 knots. Following the operation, the Longhope lifeboat returned to its station in Longhope, Hoy, and the Coastguard tug 'Herakles' returned to her berth at Hatston Pier on the Orkney mainland.

On March 27, 2014, at 5 p.m., the cargo ship Schokland, setting sail from Cape Town, encountered significant propulsion issues while navigating west of Dassen Island. In response to the emergency, the salvage tug Smit Amandla was dispatched for assistance. The Smit Amandla successfully established a tow connection with the Schokland, guiding it safely into Table Bay. Following the tow, the vessel was transferred to harbor tugs for further handling. By March 29, at 8:20 a.m., the Schokland had safely returned to Cape Town, docking at the Jackson Wharf.
