Cargo Vessel 'Arklow Flair' Sustains Damage After Pier Collision

Nov 08, 2021 10:36

In a recent maritime incident, the 'Arklow Flair', a cargo ship carrying 4,653 tons of cement, encountered difficulties while navigating the outer pier at Workington Port. The allision occurred on November 6, 2021, at approximately 11:25 p.m. in coordinates 54 39 07 N, 003 34 37 W. During the collision, the vessel, which had seven crew members onboard along with a pilot, sustained a significant hole below the waterline. Despite the damage, the 'Arklow Flair' managed to reach its designated berth. Preliminary assessments revealed slight damage around the bow thruster tube, which was the source of the water ingress. A maintenance team has been called to evaluate the situation and determine possible internal temporary repairs. To facilitate repairs, operations have commenced to unload cargo from the forward area of the ship, ensuring the damaged bulbous bow and surrounding area are lifted out of the water.
