BAE Systems Unveils New Sea Power Tug for Seabulk Tankers
In a significant advancement for coastal operations, BAE Systems has successfully delivered the Sea Power tugboat to Seabulk Tankers. Constructed at the BAE Systems shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida, this new vessel is set to bolster Seabulk Tankers’ operations under the Jones Act, which governs maritime commerce in the United States. The Sea Power will play a pivotal role in safely transporting both chemical and petroleum products across various U.S. ports. David Thomas, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair, expressed pride in the delivery, stating, "We are proud to deliver Sea Power to our customer Seabulk Tankers and believe that the vessel will provide outstanding service for many years to come." He further emphasized the importance of the collaborative relationship between BAE Systems and Seabulk Tankers, along with the commitment demonstrated by their highly-skilled shipbuilders. The Sea Power measures an impressive 141 feet in length and boasts a formidable 12,000-brake horsepower, designed with a twin-screw propulsion system. It will operate in conjunction with a high-specification chemical tank barge that has a deadweight tonnage of 30,000, forming a robust articulated tug and barge (ATB) unit. The innovative design was a collaborative effort between BAE Systems and Guido Perla & Associates, Inc., based in Seattle, Washington.
