On April 21, 2025, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took decisive action by detaining the cargo vessel 'Sea Ranger' alongside the tugboat 'Salama' (MMSI: 677021600) on allegations of smuggling heavily subsidized oil from Iranian waters. The incident occurred near Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf as the vessels were reportedly attempting to exit Iran's territorial waters. Authorities revealed that approximately 1.5 million liters of diesel fuel were discovered aboard the ships, along with a staggering 700 billion Iranian rials in cash. In total, 25 crew members were apprehended during this operation. Following the detention, both vessels were escorted to the port of Bushehr. The confiscated oil is slated to be delivered to the National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company, aiming to redistribute it within the local Iranian supply network.
