A tragic incident unfolded in the Fjortende Gulf of Spitsbergen on June 17, 2013, when a woman in her 60s lost her life after a rubber boat capsized during disembarkation from the cruise ship 'Sea Spirit.' Operating under U.S.-based Quark Expeditions, the vessel was conducting an Arctic and Antarctic cruise when the calamity occurred. Witnesses reported that the rubber boat, carrying 13 passengers, was struck by a significant wave, leading to all occupants being thrown into the frigid waters. Immediately responding to the emergency, the deputy governor of Svalbard dispatched a Super Puma rescue helicopter equipped with a physician. Unfortunately, when the helicopter arrived at the cruise ship, they discovered that the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. In addition to the fatality, three other passengers suffered minor injuries, prompting two of them to be airlifted to Longyearbyen hospital for further medical care.
