Search Underway for Missing Crew Member from Captain John K
On September 24, 2017, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in Mossel Bay sprang into action following an urgent call from the Transnet National Ports Authority regarding a missing 37-year-old crew member from the vessel 'Captain John K,' which was anchored near Mossel Bay. Initial concerns arose that the individual may have gone overboard during the previous night, prompting extensive search efforts. The NSRI deployed its vessels, 'Vodacom Rescuer IV' and 'Rescue 15 Bravo,' to the scene. They were joined by the tugboat 'Arctic Turn' from Transnet, along with NSRI crew members Corne Wessels and Konrad Beukes. Despite a thorough search operation, no trace of the missing man was found. An EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter was also enlisted to assist in the search, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. As the search efforts continued, the local police dive unit has been engaged and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
