On June 13, 2024, the bulk carrier 'Seaguardian', while navigating approximately 82 nautical miles northwest of Al Hudaydah, fell victim to an attack by Houthi militants. The vessel was making its way from Novorossyisk to Port Said when the ship's captain reported a significant explosion occurring near the hull. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the crew, and the 'Seaguardian' successfully continued its journey towards the next port, demonstrating resilience amidst maritime threats.

The maritime vessel 'Seaguardian' has come under fire for discharging contaminated water while navigating from Constanța to Bandirma. On March 1, 2020, local authorities, in collaboration with Coastal Safety technical teams, took water samples during the ship's stay at Istanbul anchorage. This action led to the initiation of an investigation by the environmental pollution prevention department. The collected samples were subsequently analyzed at a technical university laboratory to ascertain compliance with environmental standards. In response to the allegations, the Protection and Indemnity (P&I) club's local correspondent issued a Letter of Guarantee on behalf of the vessel's owners, allowing the ship to continue its journey after obtaining the Harbour Master's departure permission. However, further assessments revealed that the 'Seaguardian' was indeed guilty of violating local regulations under MARPOL laws, leading to a hefty penalty of $386,500. The vessel's local agent is tasked with settling the fine on behalf of the owners. A Letter of Undertaking (LOU) will be issued following the completion of the payment and necessary administrative formalities.
