In a significant operational move, Maersk Supply Service has engaged the multipurpose support vessel 'MPSV Swordfish' to adhere to a directive from the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic. This measure is aimed at further examining and investigating the contents of several tanks, as well as monitoring the wreck sites of the 'Maersk Searcher' and 'Maersk Shipper', located off the Île de Sein. This survey will be conducted over the next three years. The Swordfish was active in the survey area from June 15 to 25, 2017, and again from June 30 to July 5, alongside observers from the Maritime Prefecture. The initial evaluations of the wreck conditions revealed no significant changes since the first assessment conducted in late January. Importantly, investigators reported no hydrocarbon leaks. The inspections performed on the nine tanks situated within the double hulls indicated the presence of some leftover residues, which were subsequently pumped out, amounting to less than 10 m3 and primarily comprising light residues. The Maritime Prefecture is now considering the shipowner's recommendations regarding evaluating the surrounding underwater environment near the two wrecks and will continue regular monitoring efforts utilizing state resources.
