Historic Arrival: MOL Bravo Marks Milestone at JAXPORT in Florida
On June 24, JAXPORT proudly hosted the MOL Bravo, a colossal 10,100-TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) container vessel that becomes the largest ship ever to dock at a Florida port. Arriving after navigating the Suez Canal from Asia, the MOL Bravo made its notable entry to the U.S. East Coast, signaling a new era for maritime shipping in the region. Despite carrying a significant cargo during its Jacksonville visit, the vessel’s operations are limited due to the St. Johns River shipping channel's current depth of 40 feet. To remedy this constraint, a federal initiative aimed at deepening the channel to 47 feet is scheduled to commence construction in early 2018, allowing larger vessels like the MOL Bravo to fully utilize their capacities in the future.
