On June 5, 2025, the vessel "Sefa" faced detention in Olbia due to 16 reported deficiencies, six of which were classified as serious and warranted immediate action. Among the key issues identified were: missing endorsement by the flag state for required certificates and documents; inoperative rescue boats categorized under life-saving appliances; fire safety violations concerning openings in fire-resisting divisions; the crew's lack of familiarity with the emergency system; malfunctioning pollution prevention equipment, specifically the 15 PPM alarm; and an ISM certificate that did not meet required standards. After addressing these critical deficiencies, the Sefa was released on June 10 and set sail for Marsaxlokk, with an expected arrival date of June 13.

On December 21, 2019, the Libyan National Army (LNA) conducted an operation that resulted in the capture of the freighter 'Ballista' off the coast of Libya. The vessel, which had a crew consisting of Turkish nationals, was making its way from Valletta to Alexandria when it was intercepted by LNA forces. Following the seizure, the 'Ballista' was escorted to Ras Al-Hilal port for further inspection. Authorities engaged in questioning the three Turkish crew members aboard the ship.
