On September 4, 2019, at 1:30 p.m., the tanker 'Kokusho Maru' collided with the cargo vessel 'Seiyo Maru No. 8' at coordinates 34° 29.11' N, 133° 43.57' E, close to Mizushima. The incident resulted in significant bow damage to both vessels, while 'Seiyo Maru No. 8' suffered additional damage to its hull, causing water ingress. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or oil spills resulting from the collision. Prior to the incident, the 'Kokusho Maru' had departed from Matsuyama on September 1, and was anchored at 34° 28.51' N, 133° 41.01' E. Following the collision, the 'Seiyo Maru No. 8' successfully entered the port of Mizushima on September 6 at 9 a.m.
