In a strategic move reflecting the current maritime landscape, Maersk Supply Services has announced the temporary withdrawal of two Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels from active operations. This decision, confirmed by CEO Carsten Plougmann Andersen, comes at a time when the North Sea is witnessing a significant imbalance between supply and demand, leading to persistently low day rates for services. The two AHTS vessels, namely the Maersk Advancer, built in 2004, and the Maersk Assist, constructed in 2008, will officially exit the market at the end of this month. With this latest action, Maersk Supply Services has now suspended a total of four vessels from their fleet as they navigate the challenging conditions of the offshore market.

On July 5, 2010, the Swedish sail training vessel 'Biscaya Av Vindalso' (MMI-No.: 265524520) issued a distress call in the early morning hours as it began to take on water amid tumultuous seas with wave heights reaching between four and six meters. Located 12 miles off the coast of Fraserburgh, the vessel had 16 crew members aboard. The situation prompted a rapid response from the rig support vessel 'Maersk Advancer', which provided crucial assistance. In a timely rescue effort, an RAF helicopter lowered pumps to the distressed yacht, successfully reducing the inflow of water. Following this intervention, the Biscaya Av Vindalso was safely escorted into Fraserburgh harbour around 5:00 AM.
