Maritime authorities announced on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, that the Thai vessel Senna has been detained in the south Chinese port of Qinzhou due to failing mandatory safety inspections. During a routine examination conducted on Tuesday, officials uncovered twelve critical safety issues, including malfunctions in the lifeboats and fire suppression systems aboard the ship. The Qinzhou Maritime Bureau, located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, reported that the Senna, which is involved in the transport of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), docked at the port on July 26 after arriving from Haiphong, Vietnam. With eighteen crew members on board, the ship has been held in custody by port authorities, who mandated comprehensive safety repairs before the vessel can be released.
