Urgent Medevac Near Port Aransas Saves Life of Crew Member
On November 3, 2024, an emergency medevac operation was successfully carried out by the US Coast Guard approximately 35 nautical miles off the coast of Port Aransas, Texas. The operation was initiated after a distress call was received at 6:15 a.m. from the 'SFL Fraser', reporting that a 37-year-old male crew member exhibited alarming symptoms consistent with a heart attack. Following an immediate assessment, the duty flight surgeon advised that the crew member required urgent medical attention. In response, Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi mobilized a skilled team from Air Station Corpus Christi, deploying an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter for the mission. The helicopter crew rapidly hoisted the patient aboard and promptly transported him to Spohn Shoreline Hospital, where he was handed over to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) in stable condition. This timely intervention underscores the critical role of the Coast Guard in ensuring the safety of maritime personnel.
