On August 2, 2019, the cargo vessel Mary Arctica encountered engine problems while navigating 92 miles west of Shetland. The ship, which was making its way from Gronlandshavnen to Ammassalik, halted for necessary repairs at coordinates 60° 14' 10.2" N and 004° 27' 10.8" W, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. After addressing the mechanical issues, the vessel was able to continue its journey, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) at its destination set for August 5.

This incident follows a previous mishap involving the Mary Arctica, which struck an iceberg in the vicinity of Nanortalik on June 1. After the incident, the ship underwent an inspection in Qaqortoq and was eventually towed to Frederikshavn for repairs on June 11. Meanwhile, the Arina Arctica (IMO: 8131180) has taken over the Mary Arctica’s scheduled sailings, departing from Aalborg on June 10. However, due to its lower capacity compared to the Mary Arctica, not all goods currently booked will be able to be transported, necessitating shifts to subsequent voyages for some shipments. The Mary Arctica successfully completed its repair process and departed from the Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn on June 21 at 7:30 p.m., with an expected arrival in Aalborg on June 23 at 2 p.m.

Following a brief return to Qaqortoq for a thorough damage assessment, the supply vessel 'Mary Arctica' has set sail towards Aalborg, positioning itself south of Nanortalik on the morning of June 4. The ship is projected to reach Aalborg by June 9. During the time 'Mary Arctica' undergoes repairs, the 'Arina Arctica' will step in to handle its scheduled routes. However, since 'Arina Arctica' lacks the capacity of 'Mary Arctica', only partial cargo will be accommodated, resulting in some previously booked shipments being postponed to the next voyage. On June 11, at 6:40 a.m., 'Mary Arctica' arrived at Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn, where it will be docked for necessary repairs.
