Working Conditions Aboard the Silver-Way

On November 17, 2019, at 1:40 PM, the 'Silver Way,' carrying a crew of 13 Russian nationals and 2,500 tons of timber, experienced a significant fire in its superstructure while navigating northeast of Homi Cape, Pohang. The vessel was on its route from Nakhodka to Busan when an unexpected fire broke out, hampered further by a generator failure, which rendered the crew's firefighting efforts less effective. In response to the emergency, the Pohang Maritime Authorities promptly deployed patrol boats, a dedicated firefighting team, and a helicopter to assist in managing the situation. Despite the challenges posed by heavy smoke, the collective efforts of the rescue teams succeeded in extinguishing the fire and confining the damage to the superstructure of the ship.
