The Moscow Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) reported that the vessel's crew discovered the rudder was missing, rendering the Simfoniya disabled and adrift. In response to the distress call, two nearby Japanese fishing vessels have been dispatched to assist the Simfoniya, expected to arrive on May 3. Meanwhile, the vessel's owner has sent its sister ship Garmonia (IMO 8516639, deadweight tonnage 3,642, built in 1990) to initiate towing operations. Garmonia departed from Vladivostok, which is approximately 1,800 nautical miles from the stricken Simfoniya, with an estimated time of arrival between May 8 and May 9.
