Cargo Ship 'Sirius' Grounds Off Kronshtadt Amid Rudder Failure
On March 13, 2016, the refrigerated cargo vessel 'Sirius' experienced a rudder failure shortly after departing from the Port of St. Petersburg, leading to a grounding incident near the small island in the Gulf Kronshlot. The vessel, which was en route to Norway, became wedged on the shore with its bow, positioning itself outside the Morskoy Canal fairway. Fortunately, all 18 crew members were reported safe with no injuries, and the grounding did not impede navigation in the area. In response to the situation, divers were deployed during daylight hours to assess the ship's hull and overall condition. The tugboat 'Brest' (IMO: 7523283) arrived on-site the following day, March 14, to assist with the situation.
