On June 18, 2018, at approximately 03:40 a.m., the cargo vessel Sormovskiy 3052 encountered a serious incident as it ran aground north of Seskar Island in the Gulf of Finland, specifically at coordinates 60° 3.42' N, 028° 19.91' E. The ship was making its way from St. Petersburg to Police when it unfortunately struck the seabed. As a result of the grounding, the vessel sustained significant damage, including hull breaches in the bow section and the thruster compartment, in addition to deformation along both the port and starboard sides. At the time of the incident, the ship was loaded with cargo. To assess the extent of the underwater damage and formulate a salvage plan, divers were dispatched to evaluate the hull during daylight hours. There were 11 crew members on board the Sormovskiy 3052 at the time of the grounding, all of whom remained safe as the situation unfolded.
