Major Damage to Container Ship Rumba in Bremerhaven Allision
On April 10, 2019, the container vessel 'Rumba' suffered significant damage while attempting a mooring maneuver at Strom Quay in Bremerhaven. The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when a generator failure rendered the ship incapacitated during a turning maneuver while approaching the port from Hamburg. As a result, the ship's starboard side stern collided forcefully with the container quay. The impact caused a breach in the stern, extending from the maindeck almost down to the waterline, rendering the 'Rumba' unfit for sea travel. Consequently, the ship was detained at the MSC Gate until necessary emergency repairs could be made. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident.
