Docker Rescued After Falling into Elbe While Mooring Hyundai Speed

Mar 28, 2014 18:02

On March 28, 2014, a 54-year-old docker experienced a frightening fall into the Elbe River during mooring operations involving the container ship "Hyundai Speed." While he was securing the stern wire to the pilings in Finkenwerder, the wire unexpectedly became entangled with the vessel's rudder. As the cable slipped free, it struck the docker, propelling him into the chilly waters below. Fortunately, the quick response of the "Mooring Tug 2" ensured his safe rescue. The tugboat transported him back to the mooring pier in Finkenwerder, from where he was swiftly taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Thankfully, he was released later that same day. Authorities have since initiated an investigation into the incident.
