Hanjin Shipping and UASC Introduce New Relay Loop from Algeciras to West Africa

May 30, 2013 10:19

The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has announced the launch of an additional relay loop, named WAF2, in partnership with Hanjin Shipping. This new service aims to enhance the existing logistics solutions to and from West Africa, which have been operational for over three years. WAF2 will establish a vital connection between Algeciras and key ports in West Africa, including Lagos-Tincan, Cotonou, and Lome, operating on a four-week turnaround schedule. This new route complements the original relay service that connects Algeciras to Lagos-Apapa, Tema, and Abidjan. Cargo destined for long-haul routes on Hanjin and UASC will be managed at Hanjin's Algeciras Total Terminal, facilitating smooth transshipment from West Africa to Asia and America. The service will utilize three vessels, each with a capacity of 2,600 TEU, starting with the maiden voyage from Algeciras on the 2,553-TEU Hanjin Port Adelaide. Furthermore, it remains uncertain whether Evergreen, which currently co-loads on the existing relay service, will participate in the new WAF2 loop, as noted by Alphaliner.
