Iran Releases St. Nikolas Tanker After Retaliatory Seizure

Jul 26, 2024 09:10

In a significant development, Iran has offloaded the tanker 'St. Nikolas' after an intense period of geopolitical maneuvers. The vessel, previously involved in the transport of one million barrels of Iraqi crude oil, was seized as a direct response to actions taken by its management company, Empire Navigation from Greece. This incident traces back to 2023 when Empire Navigation cooperated with U.S. authorities to seize Iranian cargo from a vessel that was once known as 'Suez Rajan'. In August 2023, the U.S. Court mandated the seizure of Iranian oil from the Suez Rajan, which ultimately led to its cargo being unloaded at the Texas coast. The tanker was then rebranded and made its way back to the Middle East, only to be detained by Iran on January 11. In a series of operations from July 23 to 25, the oil was transferred ship-to-ship to the 'T.SEMAHAT' (IMO: 9804148) near Larak Island. Tupras, a leading Turkish refiner, announced the purchase of this crude oil from SOMO, the state oil company of Iraq. Tupras further revealed that the crude is now on its way to their refinery, with its arrival slated for September. After the transaction, the 'T.SEMAHAT' was anchored at Khor Fakkan on July 26, marking yet another chapter in the complex interplay of global oil logistics.

Filipino Seafarers of 'St. Nikolas' Safely Return Home After Release from Iran

Mar 27, 2024 14:10

In a welcomed development, Iran has confirmed the release of the Filipino crew members who were aboard the oil tanker 'St. Nikolas'. The vessel was detained in January while carrying a considerable cargo of 145,000 tons of oil. The return of the 18 Filipino sailors came after a replacement crew was arranged for the ship. A crew member from Greece was also freed shortly after the Filipino seafarers, who began their journey home in groups starting from late January. This much-anticipated homecoming culminated last week as they arrived back in Manila, reuniting with their families and friends after their lengthy period of captivity.

Crew Change Approved for Captured 'St Nikolas' in Iran

Mar 11, 2024 21:14

In a significant development, Iran has permitted a crew change for the merchant vessel 'St Nikolas', which remains under detention off the coast of Bandar Abbas. The ship's management company, Empire Navigation, based in Greece, has revealed that 11 out of the 17 crew members still on board are set to be repatriated. The group of Filipino sailors is scheduled to start their journey back to Manila, with nine of them arriving on March 10, while two more are expected on March 13. The remaining six crew members are anticipated to return once their replacements make it on board. Empire Navigation expressed deep appreciation for the resilience and exemplary conduct of their crew during this challenging time, as well as extending thanks to their Manning Agent in Manila and the Department of Migrant Workers for their invaluable support. A new crew is set to replace those being sent home.
