Yacht 'Blue' Faces Challenges Before Journey to America as 'Stadiongracht' Prepares for Departure

Nov 28, 2012 09:37

On November 24, 2012, the cargo ship 'Stadiongracht' departed from Eemshaven, destined for Baltimore, carrying the yacht 'Blue' on her deck. The yacht, which had arrived from Delfzijl, was scheduled to make the transatlantic journey aboard the freighter. However, the voyage encountered difficulties when, on November 23 at 6:23 p.m., the KNRM rescue station at Eemshaven received an emergency alert about 'Blue' being adrift at the entrance of the port due to an engine failure. The yacht had run out of fuel while navigating between buoys 34 and 36, leaving one individual stranded onboard. Quick action ensued as the lifeboat 'Jan en Titia Visser' reached the scene within 20 minutes and successfully towed the disabled yacht back to safety.
