Repairs Underway for Container Ship 'Stadt Dresden'
The container ship 'Stadt Dresden' received permission for a single voyage to the Ambarli Kumport container terminal, where it successfully discharged all of its cargo. Following this operation, the vessel made its way back to Yalova, where it docked at a shipyard at 6:15 PM on March 20, initiating an essential phase of permanent repairs. A comprehensive damage assessment was conducted by a Class Surveyor to identify necessary work. In response, the Besiktas shipyard dispatched specialized technical teams to begin repairs in accordance with the surveyor's findings. Meanwhile, the 'Ibrahim Simsek' was moved to the anchorage area of Tuzla shipyard. There, the Class Surveyor, alongside the owner's superintendent, performed a detailed inspection of the vessel's damages. As of March 22, the ship, initially en route to Aliaga, remained at the Tuzla shipyard anchorage, awaiting further instructions.
Thorough Damage Surveys Conducted on 'Stadt Dresden' and 'İbrahim Şimşek'
On March 12, damage assessments were undertaken on the 'Stadt Dresden' by a designated survey team. The inspections revealed significant issues, including severe damage to the free-fall rescue boat, safety connections, and handrail units. The poop deck's side shell plating exhibited a critical hole, necessitating a replacement of the steel structure as part of the repair process. In addition, an underwater inspection commenced to evaluate potential harm to the propeller and rudder systems. Simultaneously, a damage survey was conducted on the 'İbrahim Şimşek' by another appointed panel. This assessment uncovered various structural irregularities, particularly in the foreship side shell plating, as well as damages to the anchor chains and windlasses. The Harbor Master's investigation team has since interrogated the crews of both vessels. As of March 13, both vessels have had their departure permissions revoked, pending the completion of either temporary or permanent repairs, and they have remained anchored at Yalova.
