An unfortunate incident occurred on April 17, 2019, at 3:15 p.m. when a significant explosion rocked the cargo hold of the vessel "Great Aspiration," positioned 8.2 miles southeast of Lizard Point, off the coast of Cornwall. The explosion, which resulted from ongoing welding activities, left three crew members injured. The victims, all reported to be Chinese nationals, were promptly evacuated from the ship, which was making its way from Baltimore, USA, to Falmouth, with an estimated time of arrival set for April 18. Emergency services including the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) were deployed, and the injured crew members were airlifted by helicopter R924 to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth due to the severity of their burns.
