Danish Travelers Discover New Ferry Route to England Amid Service Changes

Nov 17, 2014 07:03

In the wake of DFDS's recent suspension of its Esbjerg-Harwich service, many Danish car owners are re-routing their travels to England via Stena Line. The Swedish ferry operator has reported an astonishing 200 percent surge in Danish passengers utilizing its Hoek van Holland to Harwich route. Thomas Christiansen, head of sales and marketing at Stena Line's Danish branch in Frederikshavn, expressed his delight in a press release, stating, "It's surprising and very pleasing that the Danes are showing such interest in our route between the Netherlands and England. We aim to intensify our efforts to attract even more Danish travelers to this journey.” While the car drive from the Danish-German border to Hoek van Holland spans approximately 600 to 650 kilometers, it offers a more time-efficient alternative to the now-defunct 18-hour crossing between Esbjerg and Harwich. The Stena Britannica and Stena Hollandica, both launched in 2010, facilitate this new travel option. Travelers can choose from two daily departures at 14:30 and 22:30. Those opting for the day departure will reach England by 20:00, while the evening ferry ensures a morning arrival at 06:30 the next day.
