Engine Room Blaze on Stena Transit Ferry near Grimsby

Jun 20, 2015 15:52

On the evening of June 19, 2015, at 9:26 PM, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's "Pride of the Humber" was dispatched by HM Coastguard to assist the Stena Transit, which was battling an engine room fire. The ferry, carrying 180 passengers, was situated in the shipping channel off Grimsby when the incident occurred. The lifeboat quickly raced to the ferry's location, preparing for the possibility of an evacuation in the case of an emergency. Fortunately, all passengers were accounted for, and the crew aboard the Stena Transit began assessing the situation to determine if the fire had been successfully extinguished. In support, two tugboats from Immingham were also deployed to the scene, with the Coastguard maintaining open lines of communication with the ferry throughout the ordeal. After thorough investigation, it was confirmed that the fire had been put out and no individuals required medical aid. As the crew worked on ventilating the area and evaluating any potential damage, the lifeboat and tugboats stayed on standby. Approximately one and a half hours later, the lifeboat was released from the operation. The Stena Transit, which had been traveling from Rotterdam, successfully berthed in Immingham at 7:20 AM the following morning.
