On February 15, 2016, at approximately 2:15 PM, the KNRM rescue station in Hoek van Holland received an urgent call regarding a fire on a gas-carrying truck located on the car deck of the Stena Transporter, which was docked at Europort in Rotterdam. In response, fire brigades from Hoek van Holland, s-Gravenzande, Naaldwijk, Rotterdam-Bosland, and Rotterdam-Colorado Way rapidly mobilized to tackle the blaze. Upon arrival, firefighters from Hoek van Holland assessed the situation and categorized the fire as medium severity. Consequently, two fire engines from Hoek van Holland and s-Gravenzande were dispatched to manage the incident efficiently, successfully controlling the fire in a short span of time. Meanwhile, the KNRM lifeboat, Jeanine Parquin, was deployed from Berg Port and remained on standby in case any individuals fell overboard during the fire response. An investigation later revealed that sparks generated by a plumbing company's grinding work on the deck using acetylene gas were the ignition source for the fire. Fortunately, most firefighting units were able to return to their stations shortly after the blaze was under control. The Stena Transporter was cleared to depart from Rotterdam around 10:00 PM and safely berthed in Immingham by 8:00 AM on February 16.
