Bosphorus Incident: Sti Elysees Engine Malfunction and Recovery
On July 16, 2021, the tanker 'Sti Elysees' encountered an engine malfunction while navigating the Bosphorus Strait in the Beykoz region of Istanbul around midday. The vessel, which was making its journey from Le Havre to Novorossiysk, was forced to drop anchor due to the failure. Fortunately, the crew successfully managed to restart the engine. After regaining power, the tanker was guided by the tugs 'Kurtarma 8' and 'Kurtarma 12', along with the lifeboat 'KEGM 5', as it made its way to Kilyos anchorage at coordinates 41° 16.74' N 028° 58.37' E. Following the necessary repairs, the 'Sti Elysees' resumed its voyage, accompanied by the tugs, and successfully arrived in Novorossiysk on August 4 at 8:45 PM.
