Working Conditions Aboard the Stoc-Marcia

On the evening of October 2, 2014, a fire erupted in the engine room of the tanker 'Stoc Marcia' as it navigated the waters approximately 35 miles south of Ronneby and north of Bornholm. The incident was reported around 7 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the Swedish lifeboat 'Gad Rausing' stationed at Skillinge, which set sail shortly after receiving the distress signal. The crew aboard 'Gad Rausing' acted swiftly, managing to seal off the engine room and activate the vessel's onboard fire suppression system. Following closely behind, the helicopter Lifeguard 002, carrying members of the Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG), arrived on the scene to provide additional support. The firefighters were winched onto the 'Stoc Marcia' and quickly assessed the situation, confirming that the blaze was contained. By 10 p.m., it was confirmed that the fire had been fully extinguished, and the MIRG team was transported back to 'Gad Rausing' to return to Skillinge. Later that evening, additional assistance arrived from the Swedish Coast Guard, including vessels 'KBV 034', 'KBV 048', and 'KBV 003', which remained on standby throughout the night in the vicinity of the impacted ship. The following morning, October 3, a tugboat was dispatched to tow 'Stoc Marcia' to safety in Landskrona.
