It ran aground on the Elbe River at the Glameier Stack near Müggendorf, leaving its crew of eight in a precarious situation. The vessel began to list to starboard after striking a groyne at significant speed, with wind conditions reaching 7 Beaufort. Local authorities promptly responded to the incident, deploying the police boat 'Bürgermeister Brauer' and the lifeboat 'Hermann Helms,' although both vessels departed the scene shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the 'Stortemelk' was successfully refloated on April 25 at 4:30 a.m. due to the rising tide, aided by the tug 'TOW 9.'
