Rescue Mission for Distressed Cargo Ship 'Straumfrakt' Near Lista
Amid fierce storm conditions on November 11, 2025, a significant rescue mission was set in motion after the cargo vessel 'Straumfrakt', which was carrying five crew members and traveling from Sløvåg to Kristiansand, began to take on water and lean dangerously to its starboard side off the coast of Lista. The Southern Norway MRCC received the emergency alert shortly after 6:00 a.m. In response, the NSSR lifeboat 'Erling Skjalgsson', a search and rescue helicopter, alongside ferries operating between Hidra and Andabeløy, were dispatched to assist. Although the helicopter hovered above 'Straumfrakt' for a time, it was later put on standby at Lista to conserve fuel. The situation improved when the Hidra ferry 'Rosfjord' (IMO: 9913274) assisted the distressed vessel into Listerfjord, a picturesque area between Listalandet in Farsund and the islands of Flekkefjord. The 'Straumfrakt' was successfully docked at the municipal Kleven quay in Fedafjorden, north of Lista, at around 8 a.m. The ship's operator, Roslagen Shipping, has initiated internal investigations following the incident. The salvage operation was a collaborative effort, incorporating the expertise of Kystverket, Vardø VTS, the Sjøfartsdirektoratet, and the salvage tug 'Ocean Supplier'. Once the necessary surveys were completed, 'Havfrakt' was scheduled to set sail for Finnsnes.
